Environmental Science, it's everywhere.

Throughout the summer all of you have had wonderful experiences; gone on vacation, been to the movies, or hung-out with friends. Try to relate one experience you had over the summer to the study of Environmental Science.

I had a great summer! When we got back from PA, I helped in a river cleanup. I learned about the Blackstone River and how glass and trash really effects our water. The level of trash really says something about how we treat our environment. We should change it!

This summer i went to to my lake house in new york. We have a pontoon on wich me and my dad are insane on fishing. I caught this year a 17 pound lake trout. We took pictures and released him back into the lake. I also went to my grandfathers water treatment plant in Stowe,MA. I learned all the technology needed and the purifying steps that they have to perform in order to make the water drinkable.

During the summer walking home from work one day I noticed that many people leave cigarette butts around on the ground. These can pose a toxic threat to both animals and humans. After doing some research I found that cigarette butts corrode into tiny plastic powders that leak into our water supply. Also, they can be carried through storms into the ocean. Here, birds as well as fish can mistake these for food. Eating cigarette butts can lead to digestive blockage and ingestion of arsnic, calcium, and lead. Take into consideration next time you see one lying around to pick it up and dispose it into propper facilities. I found my information off of http://ecowastecoalition.blogspot.com/2008/03/effects-of-cigarette-butts-on.html.

Over the summer I went to california, and unlike here california promotes car pooling, by having a car pool lane durin 7-10 and 3-6, and also once every month some companies, ebay and other big companies, have a keep the earth green day. On this day everyone in the company has to either ride a bike to their work, car pool with 3 other people, or use the local trains. I realize that california has become really polluted not only by of it's on population but also by china and that's probably why they have such things, but massachusetts is also become very polluted. I think that we need to some how get this kind of things passed around here.

This past summer was mostly spent at my beach house in cape cod. We have a pond behind our house, so I went fishing a lot and made an attempt at catching turtles and frogs. While doing these things, I observed the habitat of these animals and the contents of the pond. This relates to environmental science in multiple ways, and it helped me identify good places to find certain animals.

I had an awesome summer down in New Mexico. Down there I saw a whole different climate and I realized how different places can be just because of that. It's one of those things that really hits you when you first see it. I had a great time backpacking and can't wait to go back.

I spent my summer working at qdoba and as a counselor. While working as a counselor i came into contact with a runaway dog. It had a hurt leg and it was growling and barking. It was terrifying whenever anyone got close to it it would snap and bite. Animals you dont know shouldnt be touched!

This july and some of august I spent every weekday teaching swimming lessons at Kiwanis Beach in Upton. There were signs all over not to touch or feed wild animals, however children still did. My little sisters were feeding the geese and attracting more towards the people. I told them that it is not safe for the geese to be so close to people and that they could be dangerous. THey listened to me and stopped feeding the geese. Fewer and fewer geese came in contact with people as I and the other swim instucters told kids not to feed animals.
